Current Searches & Openings: Currently, we don't have as many active searches as in 2008-9, but we are in contact with our clients and expect to have new opportunities very soon. However, we have a few.
Companies in our industry are not tending to hire very much now, some have downsized or will be doing so soon, mainly because of uncertainty in the industry and the economy in general. Also some companies are probably waiting to see the details of the government's bail out plan and it's affect on them before engaging expansion plans (new hires).
However, history teaches us that recovery in the general economy tends to be felt in the in the tech industry early in the business cycle. Therefore when turn around happens they tend to do so quickly and those candidates who are prepared will reap the benefits earlier than those mired in a downward cycle of negative thinking. From the perspective of being in this industry for over 20 years I offer the following advice: · The sky is not falling and things will get better, perhaps sooner than you might think. Reduce your exposure to the general media, whose business is to sell information, which is mostly negative. But do keep up with whats happening in our industry. Conserve your resources; hang around your positive friends and relatives. · Stay focused in your job search - contacting your network and companies, consider starting your own business. If you get a legitimate offer from a company, consider taking it and waiting for a better job to come around. Being on the street leaves you vulnerable and with no leverage. · Send me your resume for future opportunities if and when they arise. Like winking in the dark, if I don't know about you, I cannot find you when a good opportunity comes in. So be ready. ore when turn around happens they tend to do so quickly and those candidates who are prepared will reap the benefits earlier than those mired in a downward cycle of negative thinking. |
